I do recommend that you let the frozen green beans thaw slightly before placing them in the crockpot. Use Frozen or Fresh Green Beans – You can use fresh or frozen green beans.Change the Cream of soup – If you’re not a cream of mushroom soup fan, switch it out for cream of chicken soup or cream of celery.Variations for slow cooker green bean casserole: Then place them on top of the casserole in the crock pot. The second option is to brown the fried onions in a small amount of butter in a skillet over medium heat. You can remove the insert and broil the casserole for 2-3 minutes to brown the onions on top. There are 2 ways that you can brown the fried onions on top of this green bean casserole.įirst, if you have an oven safe crock pot insert (with no plastic on it). I usually don’t mess with browning the fried onions but you definitely can if you prefer. However, it can also easily be doubled or tripled for the holidays to feed a crowd.
